For decades, Nepal's trekking and mountaineering industry has been dominated by men, with women facing limited opportunities, unequal wages, and societal barriers that discouraged them from pursuing careers in adventure tourism. A case in history, when the first of western visitors arrived in Rolwaling valley, the women too wanted to participate in the portering jobs but were denied by men. Thus they used to sleep with their head strap under the pillow and wake up in the middle of the night to walk miles to join the expedition as porters and eventually built a strong economic foundation for their families.
At Lhakpa Trekking, we are deeply committed promoting gender equality in Nepal's adventure tourism industry. The company is co-founded by Lhakpa Sherpa, a professional female trekking guide, and actively works towards increasing women's participation in trekking and mountaineering - a field traditionally dominated by men.
Lhakpa Trekking hires and trains female trekking guides and porters, providing them with equal opportunities, fair wages, and career growth. By breaking gender barriers, we help create a more inclusive and empowering industry for women in Nepal.
