The Mingmar Foundation, formally known as Nepal Care Concern (NCC), was founded by Mingmar Sarkee Sherpa. Through this INGO, Mingmar has led numerous social and educational initiatives across Nepal’s Himalayan regions, focusing on uplifting communities in some of the most remote and underserved areas.
In 2015, during the devastating earthquake that claimed thousands of lives and left tens of thousands missing, Mingmar witnessed firsthand the destruction of homes, schools, and historic monuments. This life-changing experience revealed how quickly everything can be lost and strengthened his conviction that investing in education is one of the most powerful ways to rebuild a nation-even in the face of poverty and limited resources.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation supported students and teachers by providing essential safety equipment and protective supplies, ensuring education could continue despite the challenges.
NCC’s journey began with support for Sagarmatha Basic School. After its success, the foundation expanded to Jana Dibya Basic School, located at a higher elevation, and more recently to Bhagawati Basic School, in an even more remote mountain area. Step by step, the foundation is working to ensure that children in Nepal’s Himalayas have access to quality education, opportunities, and hope for a brighter future.
