The name Lhakpa Trekking might seem somewhat common to visitors already familiar with Nepal and especially the high Himalayan culture. Allow us to briefly explain what does it mean and why we chose the company’s name Lhakpa Trekking.
In Sherpa culture, there is a way of naming people based on a few factors such as the name of the day when a person is born and the nature of the year. In this regard, the people born on each day of the week are named as, Nima for Sunday, Dawa for Monday, Mingma for Tuesday, Lhakpa for Wednesday, Phurba for Thursday, Pasang for Friday, and Pemba for Saturday. The co-founder of the company - Ms. Lhakpa Sherpa was born on Wednesday and the word Lha itself means auspicious and divine. Thus, the company is named after the co-founder and the purity in the name.
