Discover the hidden beauty of Lower Mustang on this unique trek that combines stunning Himalayan views, rich culture, authentic village life and fascinating local stories. Following ancient trade routes, the trail passes through traditional Tibetan-influenced settlements, sacred pilgrimage sites and remote valleys within the Kali Gandaki Valley, home to the world's deepest gorge, dramatically situated between the towering massifs of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Annapurna I (8,091 m).

Starting in Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang, the trek leads through historic villages such as Jharkot, known for its ancient monastery and fortified architecture, before reaching the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists.

The journey continues along quieter trails to Lupra, one of the last remaining Bon villages in Mustang. Crossing Lupra La, enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges before descending to this fascinating village and its historic monastery.

Further highlights include the peaceful villages of Phulyak and Dhargarjun, the scenic pass of Batase Bhanjyang, the ancient village of Thini, beautiful Dhumba Lake, Khutsab Monastery, and Marpha, famous for its apple orchards, whitewashed houses and charming stone-paved streets.

    Kathmandu - Pokhara

    The journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara (860 m) typically takes about 6-8 hours by road, covering approximately 200 kilometers. The route follows the Prithvi Highway, winding through hills, rivers and small towns, offering scenic views of the countryside and glimpses of the Himalayas on clear days.

    Drive Jomsom - Kagbeni (2 800 m)

    Drive from Pokhara to Jomsom and onward to Kagbeni, following the spectacular Kali Gandaki Gorge beneath towering Himalayan peaks. Kagbeni serves as the gateway to the restricted Upper Mustang region.

    Trek Kagbeni - Jharkot (3 519 m)

    Trek to Jharkot is one of the most beautiful short hikes in Lower Mustang. The trail follows the ancient trade route towards Muktinath, passing through traditional Tibetan-influenced villages, arid landscapes, prayer walls, chortens, and spectacular Himalayan scenery. Throughout the trek, you are rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, including Nilgiri (7,061 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Tukuche Peak (6,920 m), and the Annapurna range. Kagbeni serves as the gateway to Upper Mustang, while Jharkot is a historic fortified village renowned for its ancient monastery, traditional architecture, and centuries-old ruins.

    Short trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath, one of Nepal's most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists. Renowned for its ancient temple, eternal flame, and sacred natural springs, Muktinath holds deep religious significance. Discover its rich historical and spiritual heritage as thousands of pilgrims visit each year to offer prayers and seek blessings for the fulfilment of their wishes.     Muktinath - Phulyak (3140 m)

    Trek to Lupra, one of the last remaining villages of the ancient Bon religion in the Mustang region. Today is a relatively long but easy day of trekking, except for the steep descent into Lupra. A short climb leads to Lupra La, where you are rewarded with magnificent panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. Descend to Lupra and visit its historic Bon monastery, experiencing a unique spiritual tradition that predates Buddhism. Continue through the beautiful landscape to the peaceful village of Phulyak, an authentic and unspoilt settlement where few travellers are found, offering a rare glimpse into traditional life in the Mustang region.

    Phulyak - Batase Banjyang (3460 m) - Jomsom (2740 m)

    Trek from Phulyak to Batase Bhanjyang, following well-defined trails through the dry and scenic landscapes of Mustang. Pass through the traditional village of Dhargarjun, enjoying authentic local life and beautiful views of the surrounding hills. The gradual climb is rewarded with outstanding panoramas of the Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Annapurna ranges. Batase, which means "windy" in Nepali, is a scenic pass offering magnificent views of the Himalayas and the Kali Gandaki Valley. From the pass, descend on easy trails towards Jomsom, passing colourful hillsides and traditional .

    Jomsom - Khutsab Monastery (2920 m) - Dhumba Lake - Marpha (2650 m)

    Start this beautiful day by crossing the Kali Gandaki River and trekking to the authentic village of Thini, one of the oldest settlements in the Mustang region. A gentle climb leads to the serene Dhumba Lake, where the crystal-clear water often reflects the surrounding mountains, creating excellent photo opportunities. Continue to Khutsab Monastery, a peaceful Buddhist site overlooking the valley, before descending to the picturesque village of Marpha. Renowned for its apple orchards, traditional whitewashed houses, and charming stone-paved lanes, Marpha is one of the most beautiful villages in Nepal. The village is also home to an impressive monastery that remains at the heart of local life and culture.

    Marpha - Titi lake (2670 m) - Pokhara

    After breakfast, begin the scenic drive to Pokhara, following the Kali Gandaki Valley through the diverse landscapes of Mustang and the Annapurna region. Along the way, stop at the beautiful Titi Lake, a peaceful high-altitude lake surrounded by rolling hills and mountain scenery, perfect for a short break and photographs. Continue the journey through traditional villages and dramatic gorges before arriving in Pokhara, where the tranquil lakeside atmosphere provides a comfortable end to your adventure.
